Social Impact Award at Infrastructure New Zealand’s Building Nations
We’re thrilled to share that NIFF has won the Social Impact Award at Infrastructure New Zealand‘s Building Nations for the Rural and Marae Drinking Water Programme.
This award recognises the significant difference this programme is making in communities across Aotearoa, with 131 installations now providing safe drinking water to more than 137,500 people every day.
A special thank you to Rebecca Huckle MAPMP for leading this work, and to Geof Stewart for providing technical expertise throughout the programme.
3 mobile broadband towers commissioned under rural connectivity programme
NIFF is proud to announce that 3 new mobile broadband towers have been commissioned in the Waioweka Gorge, built by the Rural Connectivity Group (RCG) under the Government’s Rural Connectivity Programme.
A fourth mobile tower will be live by December, bringing new mobile service across the Ōpōtiki District in Wairata, the historic Tauranga Bridge, Oponae, and Matahanea.
This achievement marks a significant milestone for the Rural Connectivity Programme, breaking up a significant mobile blackspot along State Highway 2 between Ōpōtiki and Gisborne.
Remaining UFB securities transferred to new owners
Remaining tranches of UFB securities transferred to new owners Further to our 7 August 2026 announcement regarding the sale of 213,192,440 of Chorus’ UFB Equity securities held by National Infrastructure Funding and Financing Limited (NIFF) to Accident Compensation Corporation, Chorus confirms all remaining UFB Equity and Debt securities have been transferred by NIFF to the new owners as follows:
NIFF continues to hold 10,543,386 warrants (at 30 June 2026, those warrants had a fair value and carrying value that approximated zero).
State Highway 2 and Ōmokoroa Road intersection upgrades
NIFF was proud to attend the opening of the State Highway 2 and Ōmokoroa Road intersection upgrades, hosted by Western Bay of Plenty District Council on 22 August 2026.
This achievement marks the completion of two significant infrastructure projects that are helping unlock future housing growth, improve safety, and support thriving communities, schools, and local businesses across the region.
Christchurch Men’s Prison redevelopment
We’re delighted to have worked with the Department of Corrections NZ and the The Treasury – New Zealand on the first stage of the Christchurch Men’s Prison redevelopment to achieve this significant milestone for one of New Zealand’s major infrastructure projects.

Next steps on Waitematā Harbour crossing
The Coalition Government has made decisions on next steps for the Waitematā Harbour Crossing project, Transport Minister Chris Bishop and Auckland Minister Simon Watts have announced.
The project will now be Crown-led, managed by National Infrastructure Funding and Financing (NIFF), with a Senior Responsible Officer (SRO) reporting directly to Ministers
First Northwest Busway station opens
The first station completed as part of the Northwest Busway project – Westgate Station – has been delivered on time and under budget, bringing northwest Aucklanders a step closer to better, faster and more reliable public transport choices, Transport Minister Chris Bishop says.
The official opening of Westgate Station marks the first visible milestone in the broader Northwest Busway project, which will provide a dedicated rapid transit connection between Brigham Creek and Auckland city centre.
Zero-interest loans accelerate EV charger rollout
The Government is pushing ahead with its drive to deliver 10,000 public electric vehicle (EV) chargers by 2030, opening a second round of zero-interest loans to encourage private sector investment in charging infrastructure, Transport Minister Chris Bishop and Energy Minister Simeon Brown have announced.

Warkworth to Te Hana PPP signed
The Government has signed a public-private partnership (PPP) agreement to deliver the first section of the Northland Expressway – Warkworth to Te Hana – starting one of New Zealand’s most significant infrastructure projects, Transport Minister Chris Bishop has announced.
The Project Agreement was signed this week between the Crown and the Northway consortium to design, build, finance, maintain and operate the expressway, and reached financial close today.
